Format

This class follows a fall/spring school calendar with 32 weeks of live Zoom lessons (two per week) + holiday breaks. During the 50-minute lessons, students are led by a certified teacher to work through their printable Algebra 1 Curriculum Workbook (sent upon enrollment). Students ask questions, collaborate with peers, and get real-time feedback.

All assignments for the class are posted to Google Classroom and provide instant feedback. Homework is posted after every live meeting, unit assessments at the end of each unit, and semester exams at the conclusion of each semester. Semester exams are cumulative.

Upon completion of the class your child will receive a certificate of completion, a copy of their grade sheet, and a letter grade (A, B, C, or F). For homeschool transcript purposes, this class is good for 1 (1.0) high school math credit in most cases. Please verify your state's requirements.

Supplies Needed:

  • Internet access & a device that can join Zoom meetings (laptop, phone, tablet)

  • Access to a Google Classroom account

  • Algebra 1 Curriculum Workbook pages (sent upon enrollment, must be printed), and

  • a pencil

The weekly commitment for this class is approximately 3-4 hours. This includes two 50-min live Zoom classes, homework/assessments (1-2hrs), plus final semester exams.

Class Goals

In addition to learning the core tenets of Algebra 1, students will walk away with increased skills in virtual collaboration with peers, real-world problem-solving, and taking responsibility for their own learning. This class is truly a training ground for future adulthood!

Expectations include showing up to class prepared and on time, participating in class (device must have functioning webcam and audio capabilities), and completing assignments on time.

I work alongside parents to prepare their child for the future. This is accomplished through setting class expectations, being prompt with communication, giving encouragement, and normalizing mistakes. Mistakes will be made, and that is okay! It is an eye-opening part of the learning process.

From the Teacher

My role is to give students the gift of hard work and accomplishment through math. This math program sits upstream from a young adult who has proven to themselves that they can do hard things. This is the goal. This is Pre-Algebra With Purpose. Or in this case, Algebra With Purpose.

Our job as parents is to train up our children in the way they should go. Part of this training is giving them the opportunity to foster independence, and this class is designed to do just that. It's a good opportunity to loosen the reins and allow your child to practice independent learning.

I keep parents in the loop with periodic updates and am very responsive to emails. I'm looking forward to being a part of your child's math journey, and I hope to see him or her in class!
